Young Camelot
and the Fight for the Holy Grail

Young Camelot
and the Fight for the Holy Grail
Ages 12 and up
By Sarah Shulman

Synopsis
Fans of Harry Potter will love this adventure through the Medieval Times! Full of Arthurian lore and magic, it is a fun and exciting take on the legend of King Arthur (with a strong feminist twist!).

For centuries, Camelot has been home to valiant knights, brilliant sorcerers, and majestic ladies. But before Arthur and Guinevere sat on their thrones, before Merlin wielded his staff, and before knights gathered around a round table, they were all students at the world renowned school for sorcery, knighthood, and ladyship... Avalon Academy.
Avalon Academy is a school rich with tradition, where for generations both the sorcery students and the knights in training enjoyed a passionate rivalry while the ladies cheered them on. All of that changes suddenly, when the evil sorceress, Morgouse, attacks the school and uses the Holy Grail to hold the teachers hostage. The students must put their rivalries aside and join forces against Morgouse in the hopes of saving their school... and each other.

Production

Young Camelot was originally produced as part of MET's Summer Outreach Program at Frederick Community College in Frederick, Maryland. There are two versions of the show: nne is designed for a larger cast, ages five and up. The other is designed for a smaller cast, ages 13 and up. The larger cast version is designed to offer speaking rolls to each child in the show. This means there is a named roll for almost every child in the ensemble. The smaller show condenses these rolls and lines down. Whichever is best suited for you, be confident that these selections offer plenty of opportunity for stage time to all young actors in your cast. This show is ideal for both middles school and high school aged actors.
Casting
The original "Camelot" cast had over 100 young actors, ranging for from ages five to 25 years old. The original cast also featured a handful of adult actors (playing the professors). These could be played by younger actors if your cast is comprised of students entirely. Depending on which version of the show works best for your production and is selected will dictate the number of roles comprising the cast, and can be easily altered to suit your production's needs. Directors should feel free to change gender identity as desired.
