Synopsis


Fans of the Percy Jackson book series will love this new and exciting mythological adventure! When the Gods of Mt. Olympus are suddenly struck with a case of amnesia, it is up to the world's future heroes to save the day! Four students at Homer's School of Heroism, Perseus, Jason, Hercules and Andromeda, go on an epic quest to save the Gods and restore order. Along the way they will learn what it really means to be a hero. "The Young Olympians and the Most Amazingly Awesome Adventure Ever" is sure to be a fun-filled experience filled with laughs for kids of all ages... and the grownups too!

Production

The Young Olympians, or YO as it was dubbed, first premiered in 2012 produced by Maryland Ensemble Theatre's Children's Theatre, the Fun Company. Due to popular demand, the Fun Company staged multiple revivals over the next five, on both it's original stage and at other locations in the region. In 2013, YO was accepted into the Capital Fringe Festival (D.C.) and New York Fringe Festival (NYC). The cast won the award for Best Ensemble for their performance in New York City. The original production incorporated elements of multimedia using digital slides and puppetry.

Casting
"The Young Olympians" has ten characters. Traditionally the character Chiron is performed by two actors who. In the original production, these actors also controlled the Cerberus puppet. For a smaller cast, characters can double up as shown in the cast list.

"The Young Olympians" is a one act play with eight songs and one instrumental number (fight scene). There are multiple solo opportunities along with group numbers and choreographed numbers. The show comes with a complete vocal score, vocal recording, and performance quality tracks. This show does not need live instruments making it perfect for children's theater.
